Read on to find out about our new learning for Spring Term 1.
English.
Our text for this half term is The Tear Thief by Carol Ann Duffy.
We will continue to focus on writing, editing and improving a range of different text types including :
Descriptions of characters and settings using expanded noun phrases, conjunctions, adverbs and different sentence types
( statements, questions, commands and exclamation).
We will write our own version of the story with a focus on choosing and using interesting vocabulary.
We will use a dictionary to find meanings of words and a thesaurus to find similar meaning words ( synonyms).
We will also write our own poems based upon the text.
We will be using a range of punctuation including capital letters, full-stops, exclamation marks , question marks, commas in a list and apostrophes ( for contractions and singular possession).
Maths.
We will be investigate using the four rules of number, remembering to look for number bonds and patterns in number to support our learning. We will solve one-step and two -step word problems, showing our working out.
We will continue to learn our multiples ( 2,3,5 and 10) and corresponding division facts , developing our understanding of fact families.
We will be using our reasoning skills and explaining our learning using mathematical vocabulary.
We will develop our skills of collecting information and working systematically. We will use different methods of recording e.g. tally charts, bar graphs and pictograms. We will then answer questions and interpret information.
Science.
Animals Including Humans
We will learn that animals, including humans , have offspring that grow into adults.
We will learn about the stages of life cycles for animals, including humans.
We will learn about the basic needs of animals , including humans , for survival ( water, food and air).
We will learn about the importance of exercise, earing the right amounts of different types of food and hygiene.
History.
This term we will be learning about the lives and experiences of famous explorers with a focus on Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong.
We will learn about how they became explorers and compare their travels.
We will learn about what life was like when these two men lived including transport, fashion and inventions.
Art and Design.
This term we will be learning about the life and work of Lowry.
We will learn to sketch ideas in the style of Lowry and create our own pieces of art based on some of his most famous work.
We will learn about how he created his art and the colours he used .
Computing.
This term we will learn about how to show information in different ways and use it to answer our own questions.
We will sort information using databases, yes/no answers and binary trees.
RE.
Why do religious people love their scriptures?
We will be looking at the holy books of Christians and Muslims.
We will look at the story of Muhammad ( pbuh) and how the Qur’an is looked after and respected.
We will look at the features of the Bible and retell the stories from the people of God and know what Christians learn from them.
PE.
Our P.E for this term will be gymnastics and multi-skills.
The focus for our gymnastics will be looking at core shapes, travelling in different ways using floor and equipment.
In multi-skills we will focus on throwing, catching and rolling with accuracy.
PSHE.
One World.
This unit is inspired by the idea that we can benefit from
learning about people living in different places to us and their
ways of life.
We will explore our own family life, home and school and compare these to children’s family life, homes and school from around the world which are
different from their own.
We will also learn about the
relationship between people and their environment and how this
affects their way of life.
We will also learn about how people
use the earth’s resources and the importance of protecting the
earth for ourselves and future generations and how we can work
together to do this.
