Maths
This half term, the children will learn to –
Week 1 -Recognise, name and describe common 2-D shapes.
Week 2 – Represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 10.Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving subtraction (-) and equals (=) signs. Subtract one digit numbers to 10, including zero. Solve one step problems that involve subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations and missing number problems.
Week 3 & 4 – Count forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1, from any given number.Count, read and write numbers in numerals and words. Given a number, identify one more or one less. Identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line, and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least.
Week 5 – Represent and use number bonds and related addition facts within 20.Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+) and equals (=) signs. Add one digit numbers to 20, including zero. Solve one step problems that involve addition using concrete objects and pictorial representations and missing number problems.
Week 6 – Sequence events in chronological order using language [for example, before and after, next, first, today, yesterday, tomorrow, morning, afternoon and evening. Recognise and use language relating to dates, including days of the week, weeks, months and years. Tell the time to the hour and half past the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times. Compare, describe and solve practical problems for time [for example, quicker, slower, earlier, later]. Measure and begin to record time (hours,
minutes, seconds).
Week 7 – Recognise and know the value of different denominations of coins and notes. Solve money word problems, both addition and subtraction.

Writing –All our writing this half term will be in response to the text ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and Handa’s Hen’
We will focus on writing correctly punctuated sentences .
We will write words and sentences for a variety of purposes including descriptions of characters and settings, posters, riddles, letter writing, poems, retelling the story, recounts and non-fiction writing.
We will also continue to work on the uses of capital letters, full stops, exclamation marks and question marks.
Geography
This half term our topic is ‘Wonderful Weather’ We will answer the following questions.
- What are the seven continents of the world and can I find them on a map?
- What are the main oceans in the word and can we use a map to find them?
- Why are some parts of the world hot and some are cold?
- Can I compare the weather in Kenya and the Antarctic?
- What symbols are used to show the different types of weather ?
- What are the dangers of weather?
Art
This half term our topic is ‘Paper Art’ We will answer the following questions.
- Can I explore different types of paper used in art?
- Am I able to use paper to create a collage?
- Am I able to work with tissue paper to create a piece of artwork?
- Am I able to use paper to create beads?
- Can I use papier mâché to create a sculpture?
- Can I create sculptures from paper?
Computing
The children will work on the following topics and take part in practical activities using Purple Mash.
Pictograms – Making and interpreting pictograms. Using technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content.
Lego Builders – A unit designed to help the children understand algorithms.
The children will follow and create simple instructions on the computer and consider how the order of instructions affects the result.
Music
We will continue to use ‘Charanga’
Our unit this half term is called “In The Groove ”
This is a very easy song to learn and has been arranged in six different styles; Blues, Baroque, Latin, Bhangra, Folk and Funk. Each week you will listen and learn a different style of In The Groove.

a. Warm-up Games (including vocal warm-ups).
b. Flexible Games (optional extension work).
c. Learn to Sing the Song – step-by-step manageable learning chunks spread over the 6 steps.
d. Play Instruments with the Song. Play the given parts or your their compositions/improvisations
e. Improvise with the Song
f. Compose with the Song (over the coda section of the song). As a class, using the given notes, create a group composition.
Perform the Song – perform and share their learning
PSHE
During this half term, our topic is ‘Living in the wider world – Diverse Britain’
This topic is inspired by the idea that individuals can have a positive impact on groups and communities to which they belong. It aims to enable the children to identify that they belong to various groups and communities and ways in which they contribute positively to these. In this unit, children learn about community, being good neighbours and looking after the environment. They will also learn about Britain, what it means to be British, about diversity and the importance of celebrating and being respectful of our differences.
Spanish

Science
Our topics are the ‘seasons’ and ‘materials’
The children will learn to –
* Distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made
*Identify and name a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock
*Describe the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials
*Compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties
*Observe changes across the 4 seasons
*Observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies.
The children will also continue to develop their scientific enquiry skills. They will learn to

RE

The children will learn to about the Quaran and the bible. They will listen and respond to stories from both of these.
PE
This term, the children will develop their games skills and gymnastic skills.
The children will be taught by Mrs. Barker for one lesson and Mrs. Pinson-Bradley for the other.
