English
Our writing this term will be based upon the book, Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. This a story about a young boy named Michael who sets off on a sailing adventure around the world with his parents and dog, Stella. During a terrible storm, Michael and Stella are swept off the boat and wash up on a desert island. They must learn to survive in their new home, but will they ever be found?
We will be writing a range of pieces, including; a balanced argument, a diary entry and a narrative.
Maths
During this term we will be covering a range of topics, including; multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, converting between units of measure, properties of 2D and 3D shapes, decimals and percentages.
We are continuing to use our Times Tables Rock Stars – please make sure you are practising regularly. We recommend at least 3 times a week.

Science
We will be continuing with our topic, 'Living things and their habitats' during this term. We will be looking at the ways in which new plants grow and are reproduced. We will be comparing this to how different animals, including mammals, amphibians and birds, reproduce and have offspring. We will study the different classifications of these animals, their changes through their life cycles and look closely at scientists that have researched animals in depth.

Theme
We will be continuing with out topic, 'The Changing Power of Monarchs' during this half term. We will be covering a range of important monarchs and their reigns beyond 1066, diving into the reasons for their power and short and long term impacts they had. Some monarchs we will be covering include Henry VIII and the current Royal family.
Art
During our Art learning this half term we will be looking at different styles of 'Japanese Art'. We will be exploring and testing a range of skills including printing, calligraphy, origami and drawing, as well as focusing on famous Japanese artists and sculptures.
French
Our French topic this half term continues from last half term, looking at what is in our town. 'En Ville' means in town, and we will be learning how to say the names of places, and how to say where we are going.
PE
Our PE days have changed to Monday and Friday this term.
Mr Bank, our progressive sports coach, will be teaching golf, and Mrs Barker will be covering net and wall skills games, including tennis and badminton.
Music
We have the exciting opportunity to learn to play the guitar in Year 5. Our guitar lessons are delivered externally, and we are awaiting time tables changes to our lessons currently.
RE
This term we will be looking the significance of 'Special Foods' in religion and religious festivals. We will look at why different religions fast, how and why they use food to celebrate and understand the importance of Passover.
Computing
This term we will be using Purple Mash continue our work on Game design. We will be analysing existing games, and planning and creating our own. We will look at adding more elements to increase the difficultly levels of our games and create complex elements.
PSHE
This term our topic is 'Its My Body'. We will be discussing the importance of taking care of ourselves to live a healthy lifestyle, and the importance of sleep, eating well, exercise and the impact of harmful substances.
