Summer 2
English.

This term our writing will be based upon the story Lila and the Secret of Rain by David Conway and Jude Daly.
This is a lovely story about a young girl who lives in a village in Kenya. For months the sun has burned down on Lila's village. It is too hot to gather, firewood, or weed the garden.
Without rain the crops will fail. Lila is so worried that when her grandfather whispers the secret of rain to her, she sets off to talk to the sky herself.
We will be writing descriptions of characters and settings, writing our own stories, creating poems and developing our vocabulary by using a thesaurus to find synonyms.
Maths.

- We will recap addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using drawings and written methods to show working out.
- We will focus on solving problems using numbers and measures.
- We will investigate position and direction using the vocabulary linked with position and direction ( left, right, clockwise, anticlockwise, half-turn, quarter turn, three quarter turn and full turn).
- We will tell the time using 5 minute intervals ( 5 past, 10 past ..... and minutes to the hour).

We will be learning about plants and how they grow.
We will name the different parts of the plant and identify and describe what job each part does.
We will look at different plants from around the world and research how they are adapted to where they grow.
We will grow our own plants and observe how they grow. We will change conditions and observe how these changes affect growth and why.
