Avakin Safeguarding Warning
Thu 21 Jan 2021We have been alerted to the risk of potential grooming and abuse on the Avakin Life platform by members of our network.
Their online safeguarding experts have reviewed and tested the game, and discovered a number of potential risks to young people. The major risk is that users can easily access children and young people online via private and public chats.
Over 2 million people are using the platform with 500,000 using it every day.
We have shared this alert with staff, parents & carers so you can recognise the dangers without bringing this platform to the attention of the young people in your care. Information sent to young people has directed them to advice on what they can do if they have seen something disturbing online.
If you would like to have further information regarding this warning, please read the full article by clicking this link

Wed 06 Jan 2021The form that needs to be completed and submitted to request a place for your child on a weekly basis is now live on Google Classroom.
Please be aware that we are nearing full capacity, if we do reach full capacity unfortunately we will have to refer the request to the Local Authority and they may offer your child a place at another setting. With this in mind, please can we request that parents and carers only request a place if it is essential.
The form will need to be completed and submitted by 8.30am on Friday morning. This will need to be done on a weekly basis.
Thank you very much for your cooperation in this matter.

Remote Learning
Tue 05 Jan 2021From tomorrow work will be uploaded daily onto Google Classroom, the work will have a suggested timetable for it to be completed. Work can be found for your child by going into the Topic folder, then finding your child’s year group 2020/2021.
Please can all parents and carers ensure that they are able to access Google Classroom, if you have not yet created an account instructions are on our website using this link https://classroom.google.com/
Can parents and carers also ensure that their child/children have all of the passwords that they need to access TT Rockstars, Purple Mash and Charanga. If you need your passwords please contact the school office tomorrow.
Class teachers will also be holding live sessions every other day, please look out for links inviting you to take part in these sessions. We have a policy that parents and carers can read regarding the usage of live sessions. This policy can be found on Google Classroom.
Please can we request that if you have any concerns or questions that you contact your child’s class teacher in the usual way via the office email – office@havergal.org.uk. Emails via google classroom are not viewed on a regular basis so we advise not to use this method as a way of contacting teachers.
Thank you all for your support.

Government Advice
Mon 04 Jan 2021Good evening,
Following advice that has been announced by the Prime Minister, unfortunately school will not be open to pupils from tomorrow.
School will only be open to vulnerable children and children of key workers. If you fall into this category please arrive at school using the main reception as we will need paperwork to be completed, you should arrive and collect your child/children at the same time you have been arriving and collecting since September.
If you don’t have a child/children that fall into the keyworker or vulnerable category please could we ask that you bear with us as online learning will not be available tomorrow. We will try our very best to get work uploaded onto Google Classroom as soon as possible.
We are all very saddened by this announcement but would like to reassure all our parents and carers that we will continue to offer as much support to your child and yourselves as we possibly can.
