Our new text Varjak Paw is about a Mesopotamian Blue kitten whose life is about to change. He live high up on an old house on a hill, until his home is taken over by a mysterious Gentleman and his two black cats. Varjak's grandfather teaches him about the Way - a secret martial art for cats - and Varjak must use the Way to survive in a dangerous city and save his family.
This term we will be using Varjak Paw as inspiration to write a narrative, newspaper report.
Maths
This term we will be covering topics including Length, Perimeter, Time, Decimals, and Money. We will be covering the objectives:
- convert between different units of measure [for example, kilometre to metre; hour to minute]
- measure and calculate the perimeter of a rectilinear figure (including squares) in centimetres and metres
- read Roman numerals to 100 (I to C) and know that over time, the numeral system changed to include the concept of 0 and place value
- solve problems involving converting from hours to minutes, minutes to seconds, years to months, weeks to days
- round decimals with 1 decimal place to the nearest whole number
- compare numbers with the same number of decimal places up to 2 decimal places
- estimate, compare and calculate different measures, including money in pounds and pence
- solve simple measure and money problems involving fractions and decimals to 2 decimal places
- solve addition and subtraction two-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why

Electricity
In this super practical unit we will be getting our electricity kits out to build circuits in a variety of ways. We will cover:
- Electrical appliances including main and battery powered
- How electricity is generated and renewable and non-renewable energy sources
- Electrical circuits including series circuits and complete circuits
- Electrical conductors and insulators
- The invention of electricity
- Switches and their suitable uses
Geography
Rainforests
In this geography unit we will be studying and learning about features of the rainforests, with a focus on the Amazon.
We will be covering the objectives:
Where are the rainforest of the world located?
- What is the climate like in the rainforest?
- How is the rainforest made up?
- What is found in the rainforest biome?
- What is life like in the rainforest?
- Why are the rainforests under threat?
Art
We will be exploring repeating patterns to complete our Fabric of Nature topic. We will be taking inspiration from William Morris and his floral designs, linking in our rainforest topic to create Batik style designs.
