ENGLISH
This term, we are continuing to read the award-winning adventure novel, "Kensuke's Kingdom" written by Michael Morpurgo. We will produce the following final pieces of writing based on this story , through our writing process of evaluating features, planning, writing, editing and improving and presenting: A set of instructions & our own narrative.
We will also be continuing to learn the spelling rules and grammar terminology for Year 5 and each week we will complete a SPAG and Reading lesson.
MATHS
We have a 2-minute times tables text every week, so that the children maintain and improve their knowledge of their times tables (including division facts up to 12 x 12). In addition, we complete an arithmetic lesson each week.
This half term, we are covering a range of skills in our Maths lessons including: Fractions and Statistics.
SCIENCE
Our Science topic this half term is Properties of Materials, during which we will investigate properties of Materials including thermal and electrical conductivity; solubility and reversible and irreversible changes.
GEOGRAPHY
Our new topic is the UK and map skills. We will learn about the countries in the UK and to locate the major cities. We will look at OS maps; including human and physical features and how to use 4-figure grid references. We will also look at what contour lines are how they show different features on maps.
DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
Our DT topic for this half-term is Bridges. We will learn about different bridge types, research famous, bridges, test different arches, pillar and trusses before designing, building and evaluating our own bridges to meet a specific design criteria.
FRENCH
Our new French topic is clothes "les vetements". We will continue to learn through speaking, listening, reading and writing,
- To learn items of clothing and use them appropriately in a phrase
- To describe items of clothing using colours
- To build a sequence of conversation and writing
- To recognise similarities and differences in the ways clothes are worn and sold in different countries.
PSHE
Our topic this half-term in PSHE is "Positive Thinking".
The children will learn about:
- The concept of the cognitive triangle
- The difference between thoughts and facts
- Ways to face their feelings
- Choices and consequences that their thoughts and actions have
- Feeling positive about goals and future achievements
- Self-belief when goal setting
RE
In RE we will learn about:
- How do religious achieve and create peace?
- Incarnation
- What is the key message in the Christmas Story
MUSIC
In music this term, we will be learning the recorders and focus on correct playing technique; finger placement; musical notation and playing songs using the notes G, A and B.
COMPUTING
In computing, we will be creating educational quizzes using 2Quiz on Purple Mash. We will create different question types, add title pages and content pages as well as including sounds and images.
PE
This term, we will be learning and practising our hockey skills with Mr Parker on a Tuesday and looking at different aspects of fitness with Miss Bishop on Fridays.
